Smart Card authentication
Smart Card authentication is the ability to access resources on a remote machine by logging in to your local machine using a Smart Card and a PIN, and passing this information on to the remote machine. Highly secure environments like the U.S. Federal Government mandate the use of Smart Card authentication as the primary method of accessing their information systems. Dameware includes remote Smart Card authentication, which allows users to authenticate to a remote computer using their Smart Card and PIN from their local system as if they physically walked up to the console of the remote system.
Interactive Smart Card login
Dameware is one of only a few products that provide both Smart Card authentication and Interactive Smart Card logins. Interactive Smart Card login is the ability to connect to a remote machine that is at the “Lock screen” using the Smart Card authentication by entering the PIN when prompted. DRS does not require a Smart Card reader or any type of Smart Card middleware to use remote Smart Card authentication or interactive Smart Card login. This means that DRS users can access remote computers from the remote desktop logon screen. Remote users interactively log in using their PIN.
FIPS 140-2 validated cryptography
Dameware is Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 compliant. Beginning with version 6.7 of the software, Dameware uses BSAFE Crypto-C Micro Edition cryptography module, which has met requirements for FIPS 140-2 compliance when operated in "FIPS Mode." When this new "FIPS Mode" option is set, the Dameware software uses the BSAFE Crypto-C ME FIPS 140-2 validated cryptographic library, which allows the use of only FIPS-approved encryption libraries and ciphers.
Meets requirements of Federal Government and other secure networks
Dameware meets the requirements of Federal Government and other highly secure networks. The U.S Federal Government has mandated the FIPS 140-2 Compliance and also Smart Card authentication. FIPS 140 standards are U.S. government computer security standards issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) that specify requirements for cryptography modules. Smart Card authentication has been standardized for employee identification and access within U.S Federal Government departments and agencies in accordance with U.S. President George W. Bush's Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12). With Smart Card authentication and FIPS 140-2 Compliance, Dameware meets requirements of Federal Government and highly secure networks.
First third-party remote administration software to provide remote Smart Card authentication
In 2006, members of the U.S. Military required a Smart Card solution for the new Common Access Card (CAC) environment. With that request, Dameware Remote Support was born, becoming the first third-party remote administration software to provide remote Smart Card authentication. The U.S. Army tested Dameware software within their strict environment and proved that it met CAC requirements. When originally developed, Dameware software was the only known remote administration tool that was completely CAC compliant as well as Army Gold Master 6.0 compliant and compatible.
